I've used a slightly modified Anahata layout for years - the difference with my D/G is I've got a low B instead of the low A on the pull (on the D row). Naturally this arrangement now suits me to the ground but I'm wondering where the low A on the pull comes into its own.
An obvious advantage of the low A on the pull is having the treble side notes for the A major chord (A, C# and E) play all on the pull on the D row, along with the A major chord on the bass side. Are there other chordal combinations using the low A on the pull that players find useful? For instance I see there's a low Am chord (A, C and E) available on the pull - do you use that very often?
I like playing fiddle tunes which use the low notes - are there any tunes where the low A on the pull works particularly well?
