Amazing!
Just had a quick run through and it sounds great.
Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have mastered it.
Thank you so much for helping me yet again.
Have a great weekend.
Simon.

Simon, I suggest you get hold a cf a copy of Mallys tutor book.  It has several tuned with button numbers and bellows directions which you should find helpful.  By the time you have worked your way through those you should u derstand enough to work out these out for yourself.

Ah that’s good.  It does take awhile before it all makes sense, give yourself plenty of time on the early stages and don’t be afraid to keep playing the first few tunes you learn.

Simon

Inner row 2 3 4 all push is the start should old acquaintance - but it is very simple - just pootle up and down that inner row, you will need the 3 on the outer row at one point and then go back to 3 on the inner.

I use the old tune and the 'for old lang syne' at the end is 5 on the inner row push pull push push. Remember I don't/can't use the bases so it might not work if you want to do basses as well.

You can play happy birthday far lower down if you start on the outer row - about three I think, and get up to the name on that row, then use the inner row for the last 'happy birthday to you - maybe button 5 and 4 - or 4 and 3.
I seem to be progressing quite well - but as I don't try to read any music, nor, as you will have noticed, write it down either, I suspect that it saves a lot of time.
I have, recently seemed to make a significant step up in that when I think of something to play I can often start on the right button, sometimes even in the right direction. I can only think that it is familiarity, I sit here in the wee small hours and play - there is no one to be bothered by it, even at half past three.

I am making very slow progress and am far from a "natural". I have mastered Jingle Bells, Happy Birthday and Twinkle Twinkle little star, even adding a bit of bass. I have found the way Play and Teach indicate which buttons / in or out easy to follow, and I colour Red in Blue out. My wife who is learning the Clarinet spend at lease an hour every night practicing..............but I am such a S...L...O...W learner!

Beginner’s experience...

I watched a video melodeon player, with a sort of French walz.
I thought it was a Nice tune. But it went far too fast. I could grapple the first notes, but than I got lost..
I got quit mad, as I wantend to learn that tune, Albeit a little bit..
Then my wife learned  me to slow the speed on you tube ( she is far more capable with that sort of things, i don’t seem to have the patience for that...)
Then I got the speed  reduced, and learned a little bit more, but not enough, still very difficult.
I learned a few notes more, but not all ( How do they do it?)
I could do a little bit of that tune, and made the melody to my own likes, as far as that went...But still very, very slow...and it ain’t the tune which was performed....
Also i looked at the use of the basses, and i tried ( wich needs far  and far more practicing), rhythm , timing, etcetera, etcetera! Left, Right hand....
Finally, i discovered that the player must have another lay-out of the basses....
( Though he played , as i do, a g/c melodeon, as far as i could hear)
It’ all very frustrating, but I like the sound of the melodeon, so next day, mostly after diner, i Will again pick up my melodeon, and go practicing.
It takes a lot of willl, and perceverance!

But i will continue to practice,  untill i can at least play three tunes wich can be performed for a very friendly audience...

Good luck to all beginners!!
Peter.

I'm not a thunder seeker.
Can I safely assume that you are sorted for this tune, Simon?

Oh - sorry that my limited information was not sufficient - I seem to have quite a knack for finding the right buttons now - and I am even attempting to add in basses in a few places. It is too much effort to do anything but a bit of emphasis here and there.
I'll wait to see how you get on to see if I can help.

Here is a pdf of the words (I don't mind if I have all the wrong words) with buttons underneath.
Red is push, Blue is pull. Underlined is the outside row - which you need a couple of times. The main difficulty will be reversing the bellows and changing row at the same time, but you'll get it soon enough. I think I've got it right for the normal set up. Let me know.

Brilliant!
As yet I have only ever played on the outside row, so this will be another challenge!.
Just to confirm that this is for a D/G melodeon?.
As always thank you xx

The notation I use is;

Push - above the line
Pull - below the line

Assumes 3rd button start

Configured for playing on single row.

Because all I have done is to use button numbers it plays on any 3rd button start melodeon no matter what key. Ironically it wouldn't work for me because I don't use a standard layout.
