Melodeons No More, 2018
« on: November 02, 2017, 11:29:22 AM »

Just received this information from Laura Cannell (Director) after asking the question of EATMT.....

"Thanks for your email. There is no Melodeons & More planned for early 2018.

But there will be news on Melodeon events in early 2018 for the year ahead."

Not unexpected, but marks the end of an era  :(

Not unexpected, but marks the end of an era  :(

Or the end of another era, given that Melodeons at Witney is now the super squeeze event. Double :( :(

But at least you can look forward to Melodeons in Wensleydale(:)

According to their newsletter, EATMT have a Traditional Music Day event planned on 15th September 2018 to be held in 'a town in north Suffolk'*. So it won't be at the usual Stowmarket Museum of East Anglian Life and its lovely friendly grounds and big barn.  :(

* Laura Cannell's area (new director of EATMT). So - Brandon? Bungay, Beccles?

Not forgetting Melodeon Playgroup for beginner to intermediate level players. Also some other melodeon related loveliness in the South West London/Surrey area to look forward to, of which more later  (:)

It is hard coping with change of this kind, I think, especially as these long-held events have for me had a big role in helping my playing and learning develop. Like you, Steve, I will certainly miss not being at the Museum of East Anglian Life, which  has been a terrific event the times we have been.
And you rightly point out that new good stuff comes along as well, like Wensleydale, which I am sure will be simply fab. Maybe it is right to share further round the county of Suffolk the joys of melodeon... :||:
It's when it all comes at once that it takes a bit of adjusting to.

I think it is part of a grand conspiracy to stop large numbers of melodeon players from congregating in one place in a vain attempt to stop the spread of melodeons.
They'll never learn >:E

Then again it may be due to Health and Safety issues as one grenade would wipe them out.

I've only just found this out and it makes me sad. It was a highlight of my year. And living in Essex it was something I could make an effort once a year to go to. It was always my melodeon-a-versary
I hope it does return.
Oh, well...more money for going to comicons instead.

Hi Sarah,  :|||:

Hope you will decide to go to the new event next September. It's not really that much further than Mendlesham; another 20 minutes in the car further north I would say.

I will wait and see what is announced. It will be nice if all the old gang are there.
