I remember reading that in theory a guitar should have around three dozen frets per octave if it were not for equal temperament as a compromise.  That instrument rather demonstrates why it will never catch on!  Strangely, the use of guitars in popular music goes part way toward solving the problem as the player uses vibrato and string bending to achieve the exact pitch required.

Can't imagine coping with multiple frets in a pub session!  It would be wasted alongside free reed instruments anyway.

I must say that the differences, although audible, are slight.  It all assumes you can tune your instrument precisely.  With variations in air temperature and humidity, in a pub, never mind a tent at a festival that’s pretty much a lost hope.

Elderly amateur musician hoping to stave off dementia by learning to play the melodeon.  Main instrument a Tommy, also D/G and G/C pokerworks,  a single row 2 stop Hohner, and a new addition to the free reedery, a rather splendid Paolo Soprani four voice 120 bass c-system chromatic button accordion.  Very shiny, very loud, and about the same size and weight as a small car.  Now I’ve traded me Benny with (ahem) a cash adjustment, to a three voice 60 bass Castagnari K3.

It may reflect my own personal failings, but I feel like if I were to seek that level of precision, it would essentially be me looking for reasons not to be happy.
