Best key for "Boyne Water"?
« on: December 25, 2017, 04:33:59 PM »

Hello Music Gurus:
I usually learn by dots.
I am looking at Boyne Water and listening to the midi's on Trillian's site.  Inspired from this Xmas morn listen to our vinyl chestnut "Nowell Sing We Clear".
It sounds to my poor peabrain like it is mixdilodian (sp?), but maybe it is dorian or minor?  Site has the dots for all.  Plus others.  I am thinking this one is the closest (see attached).  It was F mix, now transposed down.
Appreciate guidance.  They are all close.
Thanks and best holidays to all.

Realize that likely no one has this disc, so this morning I digitized the track and put on YouTube.  Too big a file for melnet attachment.
Hopefully, I attributed it correctly, it is out of print.  I think I can do this?  Please let me know, if YouTube doesn't, so I can take it down.
Anyway, this is the version of Boyne Water to which I was referring.

The tune on the recording in in F major, the PDF is the same tune in D major.
The melodeon player in the recording is using a lot of minor harmonies in the first part of the tune, which is confusing you. They are playing D minor chords, the relative minor of F major.

It's definitely not Mixolydian.

I'm a melodeon player. What's your excuse?

Many thanks, Anahata.  It "sounded" minor, so therefor....
I'll go ahead and try it in D, maybe in G.
Much appreciated.
