Is there anybody out there?
« on: January 18, 2018, 10:10:53 AM »

I'm hoping to find other D/G melodeon players within my area (Newhaven, East sussex). I've just moved to this area, and would really like to meet up with others occasionally, as I spend much of my time playing and practising at home, which I don't think is always the best way to learn, maybe. I've got a D/G castagnari 'Studio',  and have learned to play some of the 'tunes for the month' - namely Schottishe a Bethanie, Sansonette, Midnight on the water - plus various morris tunes. I'd probably say I was an 'intermediate' player - in other words, constantly trying to improve! If there's anyone out there who would like to get together to play some tunes - not too far from my area, I'd love to hear from you.

Gwen.

Morning Gwen,
Sadly not in your area but I'm sure someone will pop along soon from that part of the country.
Good to have you on board!
cheers

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

You live but minutes from folk central for East Sussex, namely Lewes. Try these for starters especially first Tuesday evening of the month @ John Harvey

Fourth Tuesday at the Elephant and Castle, Lewes would also be a good one for you.

Absolutely, wot Lester said. I am actually in nearby Surrey but we have a lot of players travelling from Surrey to Sussex and vice versa.  Check out the English Tunes practice session for starters. Lewes folk club is amazing and run a committee of dedicated people, Bryan and Valmai being particularly active - they will make you feel most welcome. Valmai is a legend TBH.
