Bass notes?
« on: January 25, 2018, 01:24:47 PM »

Hello, I like bass notes and bass harmonies; the lower (and gruffer) the better! With this sort of thing in mind (plus the fact that I still haven't come to terms with the multi-tasking between the two hands thing!) I decided to modify something to become a bass melodeon, to harmonise along with anything else that was going on, be it instrumental or voice.
It's coming on, and I expect that the reedplates will have all been machined down to size by the time I get back from Egypt in March, when I hope to have it "working" (haha) soon after.
I've been wondering just how to use the 12 buttons which I have available, and my initial suggestion was pooh-poohed by the musically switched-on fellow Melnet member who helped me in building the new right-hand side reedblock.
Then.......whilst I was idling through different pages on Melnet the other day, and came across the pdf of the Hohner list (which I thought had been lost) and noticed the ORCHESTRA II Club 21 key 0 bass 2 voice 0 Tremolo 1936-39 Basslage, I was encouraged no end, as I was obviously not the first person to have imagined such an instrument, albeit with a lot more buttons!
So, Dear Knowledgeable Friends, does anyone know of the layout of this mythical beast? I dare say that Messrs triskel and pgroff have several examples hidden away in their respective collections, but perhaps another specialist might know without having to go to the lengths of digging the instrument out?
I'd be most grateful, as it could possibly save me a huge amount of time in trying to figure out what might be best, or even possible, while utilising the old rubbish that I have available.
Thanks, in advance.

there are bass piano accordions ( with no bass!) that are sometimes used for orchestral work.  I suppose they are the eqivelent to the bottom (low) end of a piano  with ?middle C  or thereabouts being the highest note.

to do something similar on a melodeon may require the making of  new reedbocks??

I was looking for that recently, but couldn't find it. Do you have a link?

I've looked there before, but I don't see the list on it.

Oh I see the link is broken.

I think I have a copy of the list at home.  If I can find it I will upload it to the melnet server and update the link to point to that.  It will be next week before that happens.
