I had a Nik of about this vintage for years, & loved it. This one looks to be in nice nick(  ;) ) If you do go for it, I hope it gives you as much pleasure.

"There is a French guy on you tube called Remi Geoffrey. He's a pro. Look at his recording of Midnight Spear. He plays a small French wooden job and the sound is absolutely fantastic. Thats what I am after."

On that video Rémi Geffroy is  playing a Serafini 3 row, 18 bass. A DG Nik isn't going to sound the same, I fear. As the man said, try before you part with the hard-earned.

Roger

Yes Remi Geffroy is playing a Serafini 3 row AD tuned when he is playing irish music. He is also playing a Castagnari GC for the rest type of music.

Price of this Castagnari Nik was £1150 and the same price of the same model was on Acorn Instruments in the end of 2017.
I sent query to pete /acorn "is it the same instrument on ebay" - i was seriously thinking about buying one of these. Without testing (too far for me). It seems the price on Acorn has been greatly reduced later. I have not Nik, but I am happy owner of used Castagnari Hascy that I bought without testing, only i have seen one youtube video. It seems I made right decision.

My wife plays the harp and can read music. She loves the melodeon and is with me all the way.

Not words we often see  (:).

Passive discouragement:

"Oh, you're playing the guitar?  That's nice darling!"   :-*

Or our wonderful choir leader. “ That was wonderful, but perhaps we need to do it one more time for good luck (or sometimes To firm it in our minds).” She is wonderful, we aren’t.

note re the Castagnari Nik that I recently sold,
The discussion above suggests that the Nik on ebay is overpriced, this may be so but the open marketplace has to decide,
I sold the Nik at a heavily discounted price purely because I had had it in stock for quite a while and you cann't keep boxes for ever,My store room can only accomodate so many instruments

Please don't let my selling price de value this model on the second hand market

But Pete, doesn’t the fact that it wasn’t selling for so long indicate that the market didn’t support the higher price, at least for that particular age, condition, and key signature/ tuning?

I’ve long said that people undervalue used Castagnaris, but the market value is reduced by people actually selling (ie willing to sell) at lower prices, as you did, not by people’s perception of a sale. I’m not criticizing your sale, just noting that what you described seems to me to be exactly a description of a market not supporting a higher price and the kind of factors that influence prices to lower.

Re Castagnari Nik.
I am eagerly awaiting delivery of the Nik in question supplied by Pete/Acorn.
Taking delivery in Australia when I factor in Air freight, insurance import duty and handling the Box becomes a £1200 investment. Should I ever decide to move it on it will be as a £1200 Castagnari.
Returning to Geoff’s posting:
Geoff you have been given some great feedback from the Melodeon.net forum. What a wonderful resource. In my view you live in an ideal environment to try out many boxes with access to well stocked specialist shops and the various Fairs and events.
In Australia it’s rare to find more than 1 accordion to view in shops. Most accordions if not found in antique shops, garage sales or on eBay are sourced from England, Italy or America.
Hope to get to England in the next few years. I’ll be like a kid in a sweet shop.

I’ll have to have a “Fire Sale” of various accumulated instruments before I leave. :||:

“I see the Nik is back up on eBay.”

This is not the Nik I purchased from Pete/Acorn. My Nik will get its first day out at our local Village Fair on Sat. 24 Feb. playing for the local Jolley Hatters Morris side. This Castagnari box has a great sound and is a pleasure to play.
