Yes, there are places for the Playgroup (on Saturday 19 May) and Mel's "Thinking Outside of the Box" workshop (on the Sunday). Places for Mel's workshop need to be booked. As usual, people can just turn up and play at the PlayGroup but it's good to know in advance for catering and particularly if a bed or camping is needed. PlayGroup actually starts on the Friday with informal sessions. Contact Mel or myself to talk about either event. You can PM me or email, nigelbrace@aol.com. To contact Mel go to www.melbiggsmusic.co.uk or  https://www.facebook.com/events/1729874757083381/. There is also a nice video on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRz4PP6LxdA

I'd like to register my sincere thanks to all who had a hand in organising and running this event.  It was a great day, with a good many folk, of all abilities, attending. It was also really rather humbling to realise just how short of decent my playing actually is, but never mind, I did learn things and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
The venue was about as ideal as I could imagine it could be, and the weather must have been one of the best days so far this year. Fabulous all round, and a credit to the organisers to have found such a place.
I was fortunate to attend tutoring sessions led by the charming and capable Mel Biggs and also the lovely Mr Richard Featherstone, whose easy going, old fart's, style was deceptively infectious and productive! The eventual party pieces were widely varied, and Nigel's little tribute to our dear, recently departed, friend Derek Jervis was quite poignant.
The buffet lunch was beautiful, and the take-away pub meal on the evening was surprisingly good, certainly the best scampi and chips I've had in quite some time.
It was also good to meet, and see again, melodeonistas from the deep south (yes, even further south than Middlesbrough!) and the other regions which were represented. I apologise again to Tony from Bedford for pinching his cushion and hope that he and the others were made to feel welcome in such foreign parts!
Maybe by next year I'll progress to actually using the bass buttons effectively, instead of just pretending or hitting and hoping?
Thanks again for a great day!

Congratulations to Nigel for organising another excellent weekend, the venue was outstanding. It was my first attempt at leading a workshop session, not sure how much the poor guinea pigs/students gained! Thanks for the kind words Edward, I would have thought "elder statesman" or even "grizzled veteran" but I suppose "old fart" is close enough ;D

That was a truly excellent weekend (even though the drive from and back from "the deep south" was very tedious (hopefully not too much speeding, and no tickets heading my way!). A huge 'thank you' to Nigel for organising and running (well, limping  :P) - and congratulations on finding such a great venue; it was something special to be able to just sit around together and swap stories (and some great laughs) with such a great bunch of people. Please pass on my thanks also to Charles!

As for being a guinea-pig, I thought Tuftys' group was very good - a nice balance of advice and playing. The ability to wander of on our own to practice what had just been discussing was good - even if the sheep in the field opposite didn't seem to think so!

I stayed for Mels' group on Sunday and found it very, very worthwhile - such a different way to approach the box; a huge amount to think about and try; not sure how much my poor brain can retain :)

Was it worth all the time I spent driving (at least 14 hours in total...)? A huge "yes"!

Great to read some of the accounts of the weekend that have already made it to mel.net.

It was a pleasure to meet so many new melodeon faces (no, not the sad dormant ones) this weekend. I think the combination of venue, weather and like-minded people really MADE it! I particularly enjoyed the group meals and evenings socialising outside with copious amounts of red wine (Dave and Tony, I'm looking at you...) and scurrying mice. Not to mention Charles' wit and humour!

Do check your inboxes as there are a couple of short feedback forms to fill in (one fore each event).

Do I want to do this again next year? HELL YES!
