Mr Lucas. I fear that knocking or not (for that matter) the razor action is no part of the music of Hermeto or his many fans! Or maybe I'm not correct. Or maybe I am??

Have you shaved?

... the first guy's technique was without doubt dazzling and a mighty display of technical skill. But the music was, for me, almost unbearable after about a minute and a half - whereas I could have listened to the guy on PA play Bach for the rest of this week!

I'm afraid I have to agree Al, very skilful but not (for me) very musical playing on the melodeon, whilst that was very organ-like Bach performance on the PA...  :-[

By the way, maybe everybody is too stunned by the melodeon playing to ask, but Hermeto's instrument is a Brazilian "Hering" pokerwork, similar in design to the mini 10-key one I have:

This is just amazing music. Google him if you've never heard of him.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxh6gbohJLs
This simply reinforces my long held belief that men with beards and melodeons just do not mix.

Hi! Jan welcome aboard - see you in the Cotswolds   :M

This picture taken three weeks ago - it's down to my knees now.

um...technical correction from amano the cloth here, as a good Jewish boy and nazarite it's highly unlikely that he would have shaved. However it is a well known fact that his Father is a Respected Greybeard - though not a member of THIS forum!

Love it when conversations take this sort of twist.

In a sort of in/out sort of manner - the hesychastic nature of the melodeon has long been a source of contemplation for me ;). A deep association between our favourite instrument and man as an instrument that also breathes in and out...can I have another cup of coffee please as I'm losing the will to live :D

Just try contemplating that at the end of the Friday night pre-Melodoeons at Witney session and see if you still feel the same way  ;D

Hermeto's instrument is a Brazilian "Hering" pokerwork,

What tuning is he playing?  Is there a commonly played key for Brazilian diatonic boxes?

I've been listening to Hermeto much longer than I've known about melodeons.  Here's my favorite HP vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06Qm-Z5OsHw&feature=player_embedded

He's only bleedin' deadly. That clip is awesome.

Anyone know what tuning he'd be playing in the original clip? Trying to figure out if it's worth trying to learn...

I think it's G/C, but am far from sure... could be a club as well, I have a feeling that they are popular in Brazil.

He's a melodeon savant. He doesn't just push the envelope, he turns it to confetti and scatters it to the winds! Amazing to see the possibilities in these little boxes we tinker with!... ;D

Damn, don't think I'll be attempting it on B/C.
