"I found Weltmeister Cajun at another shop and they quoted me a price of $300 to $400 to retune it. "

Give me liberty or give me death?

I wonder if they understood a request such as "change tuning " to mean retune to a different key, rather than "tune it a bit wetter" or tune it a bit drier"?

Given my experience with them..
this is for a simple tuning.

I have tried a few times to buy a new box from them with a simple dry out.

Dry out on one bank of  10 reeds.. $400 on a new box purchased from them. No sale.

Other similar responses to simple requests that would have been handled cheap or free by other box shops were
obscenely overpriced.

There is also an attitudinal (oft repeated) component which will not be discussed.

Look at the majority of the "world famous" videos.  That will give you an idea.

Exit stage left.

Savoy's normal equal-tempered tuning (what people outside Quebec call 'Quebecois'  ;)) is a nominal +5/-5 cents.  Messervier is more like 0/+12.

Maybe this one is wet enough for Triskel ?  https://www.kijiji.ca/v-autres-instrument-de-musique/lac-saint-jean/accordeon-jean-claude-paradis-2-rangees-ad/1300706063?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

There are a number of boxes for sale on that classifieds site, including three one row boxes by Paradis, a Caron, and several Messerviers. That two-row Paradis is quite something.

There is an accordion extravaganza in Drummondville, Qc, April 21. You might want to make the trip that day and meet other players and hear a variety of accordions, probably some for sale.

Interesting concert and just a stones throw over the border for me.

Thanks for posting it.
