The joy of playing with friends....
« on: March 25, 2018, 09:01:41 PM »

In the last few of months, I have been getting together with a couple of friends on a Sunday afternoon, to share some music. This is a very new thing for me, as I haven't played with anyone else before and I must say, it is an absolute joy. It surprises me what we can do, with very little practice together, so we can only get better!

Showing my age - it reminds me of the days when I was young, before television, when everyone in the family played something or sang and we used to sit round the fire and play the simplest tunes just for entertainment and fun.

This is the first recording we have made, today, with a small compact pocket camera. I am really chuffed and looking forward to the next time we meet up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDFSBfRWCZs&feature=youtu.be
It is a tune called Miz Kerzu, written by Florence Pinvidic and we are Tenor Treble Concertina, Ukelele and Melodeon.

I can't help wondering how many other little groups of people get together just for the joy of it.

Nice playing! I meet with 4-5 people once a week and find that playing with others pushes me to improve (if we spent less time drinking and talking I might improve even more ;D).

Wednesday night is morris night. We love it, but the best bit is the session in the pub afterwards. If we spent less time drinking and talking, we might improve more, but we wouldn't have half so much fun.

Hey, Arty, very cool and very nice sounding. An interesting set of instruments.

I have my trio that I play dances with, but I've started playing regularly with my kids "just for joy." Brigid (age 24) and I play together most often. Ukulele and melodeon is a really nice sound, especially if you only have a single reed sounding ... a delicate sound.

Here's the two of us: https://accordeonaire.com/2018/01/12/two-tunes-with-my-daughter/

It has always been a dream of mine to be able to play with my kids.

That’s nice Gary, I have seen this before because I follow your blog. Keep doing this, your kids will treasure those memories!

Playing with friends is one of the great joys of life.  It's also a very good way of improving your skills not to mention the many benefits of socialising with like minded people.  Having struggled in the wilderness alone for nearly a decade trying to learn the instrument I joined a group and it changed my life.  May your trio go from strength to strength!

Thank you Tom - we have only played together a few times and I can say that each time I get in my car to drive home after playing together, I am absolutely buzzing with enthusiasm. This is the first time we have recorded ourselves too and just watching it back I am learning a lot. We did this little video in one take but it shows how terrified and concentrated we all were! It will be better when we have discarded the sheet music and started listening to each other more.
It will all come together in time.  (:)

Thanks for sharing, it's a very sensible interpretation of this beautiful tune!
