Is it possible to get a single tongue helicon bass reedplate, and where from? Expensive, do you think?

That'd be a regular bass reedplate then, surely? The whole point of Helikon bass reedplates is that the reeds are paired...

I've no idea! That's why I'm asking. I've a thought rumbling around my bonce that it might be fun to have just one nicely deep bass reed to make up a chord (if I wanted to) on an otherwise chord-less left end.

In practice very low pitted bass reeds are impractically slow to speak.  It is normal to have two or three reeds at octave interval above because they speak faster and help the low reed to speak more quickly, or at least give the impression that it does.

As it happens, I was thinking of interrupting your bank holiday weekend with a phone call to ask why the 3rd octave reed is speaking before the 2nd octave one of the two which I've just used to replace the chord reeds on my latest HA114 in G.
But that dilemma (of ringing you or not) has now been solved by your timely reply. Thanks again! While you're on, though........perhaps you could offer some suggestions as to why I'm getting a slight tinkling noise on the new big C reed on the push, it's also happening on the big bass reed in the little D International too. I'm almost certain that neither are contacting the bellows.
