Bernard Loffet
« on: March 30, 2018, 01:47:42 PM »

… I've read on Facebook, it seems Bernard Loffet just passed away…

Huge loss for the melodeon world, and for the folk music and dance, and also for the web, for he was kind of pioneer for accordion on the web.

Souvenirs from my early accordion lessons, where I went countless times on his website, looking for a possible new accordion, or fetching a new tab…

All my thoughts to the family, obviously.  :'( :||:

That's terrible news, Yannick. Thanks for letting us know.

If you have any more information, please share it. I don't know how old he was, but from meeting him a decade ago I wouldn't have expected his time to have come just yet.

Very sad news indeed. I've owned two of his boxes, both excellent. He was easy to deal with, and it was a real pleasure to meet him. He was a very enthusiastic and talented musician with a great appetite for life, who will be sadly missed.

Yes, indeed, echoing all the comments on this thread.
Some people leave a great big hole in the lives of others and their community when they pass on. Bernard was such a person.
RIP.

Oh that lovely man, what unbelievable and very sad news.

I have had two of his truly excellent G e B boxes one of which I collected in person from his shop / home in Caudan, Brittany, where my son and I were royally entertained to a meal with lots of musical chat (and wine !). My  '2 row plus 2' G/C was particularly nice, I wish I still had it.

He was so responsive and positive to deal with, and I recall being taken to task in typical Bernard fashion for for talking C, D, E buttons etc and not Do Re Mi.

We also had several periods of banter about the merits or otherwise of bellows straps because he insisted that they were not necessary, making comparisons with Concertinas. Subsequently I persuaded him anyway actually to fit a pair onsite at his stall at the then St Chartier festival which he did with great precision and very good humour.

What a gap he will leave, and that wonderful website........

RIP Bernard

Very sad indeed. Had been hoping to meet him next year as part of tentatively planned trip to Brittany.

A great craftsman - he made the one box I've ever regretted selling. He will be missed.

Only last week I messaged him about the new box he had made for me (perhaps one of his last?) and told him, in glowing, superlative terms, what I thought about it. It's simply the best melodeon I've ever owned and has rekindled my passion for playing. He sent a lovely reply and suggested we meet up when he was to visit the UK later this year. Oh dear.

I'm so glad I sent that message. RIP Bernard and thank you.

I've played several of his boxes and always enjoyed them.
When first beginning to play I found his website a goldmine of advice and tips which helped me get going. It was a valuable resource.
I'd always promised myself that I'd pop into his shop one day......
Sad news.
Thank you Bernard for you help to a beginner and to the greater world of melodeonism and traditional music.

Devastating news. I shall treasure the one time I met him at Les Panards where I picked up an amazing C/F Acc pro model he had made for me. His workshop at that event revealed the the great passion and infectious enthusiasm he had for the diatonic accordion. His legacy will endure for many years to come I'm sure.

Really shocking and sad news. A brilliant musician and performer. Saw him at d'Accord in Exeter a couple of years ago and I'm so glad I did. He was amazing the way he could play, dance and sing all at the same time, and of course all in bare feet.
A huge loss to Breton music and dance and to the melodeon world.
Condolences to his family who must be devastated.

Far too soon. I love my Loffet and what little I know about melodeon entrails came from his patient instruction. Without him half the techie posts on here would be Chinese, and my DG box would be still broken.
I am sad for us, but more so for his family.
