Ginelli diatonic accordion
« on: August 29, 2020, 06:11:03 AM »

Is anyone familiar with this brand please?

There's one rebadged as a Hohner Corona II here: https://es-la.facebook.com/reparaciondeacordeonesenchihuahua/posts/2129782877106919, and I've seen one advertised elsewhere in GCF, but all in all info seems fairly thin on the ground.
Thanks

The grille design looks very Chinese to me! Take a look at those advertised under many names, 2 row and three, and you'll see what I mean.

there have been quite a few  Chinese boxes around with names ending in'elli to give them an itaalian  flavour!

Many years ago I  enquired  with a Chinese manufacturer  about  importing boxes and was informed that if I bought ( I think it was a minimum of 25 )  I could have them badged to my own requirements   .  'Crapanelli' came to mind!

for reasons I can't remember I didn't proceed

Thank you gents, for a little light relief on a typically miserable Saturday morning!

In all fairness the Chinese copied this practice from the Saxons.

Even in the 19th century you didn't need a huge number of boxes to justify making up a stamp for your "own brand" badge.

You can buy a truly nasty Chinese made GCF here in the UK...but they have nothing good about them.

Probably the best thing about it will be the semi-rigid gig-bag case which comes with it.  ::)

My experience of Gear4music is that they describe their wares pretty honestly. I'm not sure about this, though.

"...with a sound and quality which will please the more accomplished of players."

Has anyone any first hand experience of the melodeon in the advert (i.e., as prepared and retailed here, not a different clone?

Gear4music is fine for electronic stuff like mics, cables, amps, etc. but I would not trust them to know anything about melodeons, especially those looking like the one in the advert. I think the playability quote will probably be taken directly from the manufacturer's advertising hype.
Some years ago at a folk festival trade stand of a well-known English chain of folk music shops, I once tried out a similar Chinese-made three-row. It was truly dreadful: stiff action, poor response, indifferent tuning - you know the sort of thing.

Yes, I have seen a couple. In one they hadn't put the reed blocks in the right place

Thanks for that. I'm disappointed, but not really surprised...if that makes sense.
