Poll: Tune of the Month for June 2018

(1/1)

Clive Williams:
Hi all;

First up, last month's runner up (just) was this Passepied de la Poule Noire - This wonderful tune comes from the playing of Marinette Bonnert in 21 Boutons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdkClwSu_rw - first tune in the set.

Gavin's video of his song reminded me of this, the Bledington version of Young Collins, also known as Jug of Punch. Here demo'ed by Lester: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTN43LMSXy8

As suggested by Pete (thanks Pete) and demo'ed by Steve, Oscar Woods' Jig, also known as Tiger Smith's (who Oscar got the tune off, I gather) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeN8ibBtBfg

There's a couple of versions of May Reel I've found; this one nice and steady, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdzl73snAtM and this one played by Jim Sawyer with more swing than you would think humanly possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIpZYznP1CY (first tune)

Fred:
Wow, after listening through all of the possibilities, I've got my clear favourite. The first three didn't really tickle my fancy all too much but May Reel has something special about it. It doesn't repeat any clichees but instead has a unique twist to its meldoy. I hope it will win. (:)

Chris Thomas:
Another vote for May Reel from me...

Helena Handcart:
Not sure if I'll get round to submitting a TOTM in June but I will try - got Longborough tunes to practice then a bunch of tunes for some sword workshops we're doing and then... well then I might get around to learning some tunes of my own choosing.

May Reel and Bacca Pipes as a pair have been floating round my 'to learn when I'm not learning stuff I have to learn' pile for a while - maybe this will give me a push.
