Strange Hohner?/possible ebay scam
« on: June 03, 2018, 01:52:23 AM »

Never seen a Hohner like this.  Looks like a Galotta with an upside down Hohner badge....

Also, why is the listing in German with an item location of Redwood Falls Minnesota???

The instrument does have rather an "East-German imitation of late 1940's/early 1950's Italian" sort of a look to it, with hints of Busilacchio, et al., perhaps...

But I wouldn't be worried about the seller, whose feedback is nearly all in German. Maybe they're German but living in the USA, and selling German collectable items to Germany?

That's a new, and infuriating, trick of eBay's - taking you to an active auction instead of the finished one you wanted to see!

You need to click on the word Angebot link (third word in the blue banner "Das gesuchte Angebot ist nicht mehr verfügbar. Sehen Sie sich diesen ähnlichen Artikel an, den wir für Sie gefunden haben.) to get back to the original sale. Or (hopefully) this link might now work: Hohner - Musikinstrument - Alt - Original - Erbstück

Wondering if this could be a metal-bodied box (at least on the left side)?

Or moulded celluloid, like Wurlitzer tried? I had been wondering...

I am the new owner of this lovely wee box. Received it last week.
The Hohner lettering has been stuck on it at some time, but very tidily. I think it’s probably a German box too. The reeds are stamped but I can’t make out what it says- it’s quite a stylized stamp. I’ve not seen another box quite like it. It even has a nifty bellows lock on the top. It’s celluloid over a wood cabinet. The previous owner told me it was his grandfathers instrument but latterly had been used just as a toy by various children over the last 40 odd years. It’s in not bad nick overall though and still has a good string sound. It’s in C/F of course and I was intending converting it to C#/D. It’s slightly smaller than a Hohner Erika.
Now if I can work out how to post some photos.....

I've a dim recollection of seeing something kinda' similar sometime, and racking my brain to remember. The name Horch comes to mind, a firm that later made some very nice-looking PAs. ???
