A New Mazurka
« on: June 21, 2018, 06:18:08 PM »

I've written a new tune today and that doesn't happen very often. I'm always wary with new tunes, wondering if I've written them or just rewritten something that's lingering in the back of my memory. I'm pretty sure the B music is original as it took me ages to figure out but the A part just flowed out so easily I'm a bit reluctant to claim ownership of it. If anyone recognises all or part of the tune do please speak up. In honour of the date it's called The Longest Day, in honour of my wife's imminent birthday it is subtitled Sally's Mazurka. Tune only here, I'll leave the chords (suggestions welcomed) to anyone that fancies playing it. MP3 of the midi output is here.

Nice song, might as well give it a shot tomorrow. Today is just out of reach because it's 2 am and I wouldn't want to encourage my neighbours to call the police. ;-)

Funnily enough the A part sounds unknown and somewhat fresher to me than the B part, which I somehow connect with the B part of this mazurka by Yann-Fanch Perroches. (Might as well be because of the nature of melodeon tunes always sounding a bit alike though.)

Sounds new to me but then I don't play many mazurkas.
I've never seen a !tenuto! mark before, which I understand means something like 'play the full value', nor the full stop marks. Could you let me know what your thinking is with those?
Thanks
Hugh

The dot above or below a note is a staccato mark, hit the note then stop, leaving the full time value. Tenuto is as you say, give the note it's full length. I only put these in the file so that the generated mp3 file would sound the way I played it but everything is open to interpretation. Thanks for giving it a go and I'd be interested in the chords you come up with.
Pete.
