Forty Year Jig
« on: July 01, 2018, 09:06:08 AM »

I heard this tune played at the Saturday evening session of the Halsway Melodeon weekend and really liked it but haven't found any reference to it on the interweb. Can anyone point me to the 'abc' or a video please?
Many thanks
Nick

Could it have been 481 from Blowzabella's Two Score?

There's a tune by the Swedish band Vasen called "The Thirty Year Jig".  They wrote it for someone's birthday, and so I played it for a friend's 30th.  It's a great tune.  As the years have passed I've incrementally changed the title.  We're now well past forty-something.  There's a discussion of the tune and several different versions of the ABC's on The Session here: https://thesession.org/tunes/5304

Well, I'm not certain whether that was it (honest guv, I'd only had a couple!), but it's a good tune all the same...
I misheard the title as something like 'forty mile bridge' so not much help from me !

I checked with Andy Cutting who has confirmed it is the 'Thirty Year Jig' by Vasen. Thanks to Matthew B for getting it right!
And here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=770ig9bYZYM
Lovely.

Seems like my hearing aids need a clean out  ;D

Another one to learn properly - and the B part is definitely harder than the A (I prefer the version without the C#, personally...)
