At least I think that they're two separate tunes.

  • In dampest Dorset, on the soggy south coast.

The Blue Eyed Stranger.  Or Strangler, if the dancers are playing up. Other titles might be available.

PS ignoring the scales, one tune with an A and  B part.

  • G/C Pariselle, D/G Loffet & maybe too many Hohners

Have you tried using folktunefinder for finding the tunes?
You can just insert the beginning of a tune and it will search its database for similar songs.

I agree they are both Blue Eyed Stranger, the second version is just done in a higher register.

Very nice playing, lovely lift and speed.

My partner who dances the Morris can't place the tune but it might be a variant!

Having looked at the black book, we think it is a variant on The Blue Eyed Stranger Bucknell and Headington.

I have heard that it, or something similar,  is known as "The Soldiers Return" in the US. Can't remember where and I don't know if it's true.

The Blue Eyed Stranger is what the morris settings are always called.

Ashley Hutchings included a song to this tune on one of the "Morris On" albums. Also included on "A Touch of Morris"

Edit: I think the credit goes to Chris Leslie, sometimes of Fairport Convention.

That's pretty much as I've played it for the Headington dance for the last 40-odd years.

Among others, Saltarelle Pastourelle II D/G; Hohner 4-stop 1-rows in C & G; assorted Hohners; 3-voice German (?) G/C of uncertain parentage; lovely little Hlavacek 1-row Heligonka; B♭/E♭ Koch. Newly acquired G/C Hohner Viktoria. Also Fender Jazz bass, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Epiphone Sheraton, Charvel-Jackson 00-style acoustic guitar, Danelectro 12-string and other stuff..........

Thanks. I wasn't sure. I think it's Chris doing the singing.
