Just another Klingenthal box?
« on: July 11, 2018, 10:21:20 AM »

Have I acquired a rare and valuable melodeon? A "Patent BOS Melodion - Made in Germany". Boasts "Broad Steel Reeds" (which are not on individual plates, but on 4 large plates). The knobs operate different registers, and the air button also operates an internal bellows lock. It seems to be in the keys C#/D - destined for the Irish market?
The fact that the word "Melodeon" is also spelled "Melodion" on the same instrument would suggest that QC was not great, so I probably should hold off on ordering a new Ferarri, until Melnet experts confirm it's provenance.

I’m afraid you aren’t going to make your fortune on this. It’s a bit above the quality level of the cheap Klingenthal boxes,  but not valuable, or rare.  Not common perhaps, but not rare.

Just speculating, the corners cut at an angle reflect the style of a bandonion - perhaps this is why they chose that spelling "melodion".
