This instrument keeps cropping up on our "favourite" selling hub. It attracts bids every time, but seems to not move outside of London before it appears again, funny or what?

I just bid it up to about £80, out of interest, but not prepared to go any further, in case I win it

Obviously got a higher maximum from somewhere else.

There is another London based ebay seller who puts things on at a low start then use other accounts to bid up the price, then withdraws it from sale and re-lists at a price a bit above the previous max. Absolutely forbidden by eBay, but impossible to prove.

But the one in question lists instruments for 7 days, gets a few bids, then takes it down after a day or two and relists, over, and over, and over...

This is London Accordions isn’t it?
I’ve watched this one 5 times, the text changes, but it says much the same and there’s always the same misspellings of certain words. The first 2 I watched were from the user londonaccordions so maybe it did sell once but whoever the new owner hohnerman is, he’s using the same pictures and spelling mistakes. He does the same thing with E guidi melodeons, they keep popping up at low prices then disappearing. I guess he’s probably on the level in a way but his strategy with eBay is devisive to say the least, and I’d never buy anything off him. But it’s mildly amusing to watch.

Unfortunately for the seller(s), such tactics are ultimately self-defeating, because they finish up putting people off bidding, instead of bidding more..

) perhaps this is a reformed MAD sufferer now targeting melodeon collectors to annoy them?

If you go to the bids page and click on the anonimised winning bidder it lists their previous purchases, if they are all or mostly for the same seller I would have thought this ought to prompt ebay to investigate further.

BTW anyone heard from Edward Jennings lately ?? I've traced him on webcams as far as Brain Scrambling House in Gateshead but no sign or sound since..........

Yes I was wondering the same thing myself. It appears his identity has been stolen by a certain Winston Smith. Anyway I have employed a famous private detective firm (Hassle, Bellows & Reed) to get to the bottom of this.

If you enter a high maximum bid, then every time someone else bids, and it's a lower amount, then EBay automatically enters the next highest increment in your name, until the amount you bid is reached. At which point your name disappears unless you up your offer. This accounts for the same name recurring.
