Four Jacks March...
« on: July 29, 2018, 02:43:48 PM »

Does this tune have any other titles because the moment I heard it I knew it..but I can’t find that many recordings of it. It’s a bit of an ear worm...

It sounds like a calliope tune to me, but perhaps that's just because it's being played on a Chemnitzer.  The sheet music is available here http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/collection/170/155, as well as bit of background information.  It looks like the composer, Abe Losch, wrote tunes for the other face cards as well.

Thanks for that! In the UK these machines are also called fairground or steam organs. It can sound pretty good on a PA. I need to give it a go on a melodeon.

It looks like it might be possible in the published key on a G/C. Possible, but quite a challenge!

It’s a great tune. I think the YouTube vid is in E or something like that. I heard it and was playing it by ear on a PA. The sheet music is a big help but is in a higher register than the recording.
But I’m sure you can manage it Anahata!
