Clive mentioned as being a common pair for Chassepain - Boudemic?  Anyone got the abc?

According to the list on his blog, I'd wager a guess that he has the abc somewhere in his huge pile of tunes. We just have to wait for him to post it. (:)

"do 'Euro' tunes tend to get more votes than 'English' ones?"

It has seemed that way to me for a while. Perhaps members are afraid that we won't be allowed to play them after Brexit? Stranger frightening stories abound.

I  think Clive may be a player by ear. I am sure he knows the answer to that better than I do, though (:)

Thank you for the abc Greg. I think Clive might have spelt the title by ear! ;)

Phonetic spelling I expect. My wife's a primary teacher. She goes on about how marvelous phonemes are. Beyond me.

The Cutting rendition is called Chasse Pin. Didn't like the tune at all, at first, but it's growing on me. I've been putting it with The LNB Polka.

It took me quite a while to find it (and some lateral thinking !)  I'm not so fond of it as Chassepain, so it's at the bottom of my 'to learn' pile and has been submerged by another layer of great tunes heard over the Summer...

Here's my version, played on a Castagnari Mory in D/G and paired with another 2 times bourree from Gilles Chabenat, Baudemic:

It's been fun learning these again - I used to play them a lot, but haven't played these for quite a while; I think they're both cracking 2 time bourrees with lots of punch and drive.

A very quick recording..

Not fond of this tune and french bourrée 2/4 are generally difficult to play on melodeon/accordion compared to hurdy gurdy/french bagpipe..

(Difficult about the feeling of the dance that should be very different from a polka for example)

Well...heres' my go. I thought I'd have a go at Baudemic too after Clive mentioned as a pairing for Chassepain. Me playing right out of my comfort zone!

P.s. I used the abc helpfully posted here for both tunes as I didn't know them at all previously. I wonder why Chassepain is scored in G when it feels very much to be in D? By which I don't mean the original tune but the abc score.

I copied the ABC with looking at that detail, but you're right -  as there are some C♯ notes in it, I'd have declared it as in D and put accidental  marks where there are C naturals.

I'll take that as an encouragement to start recording. The practice has to suffice for now. (:)

This one was way harder to get a decent recording of than I'd like to admit. Technically I can play the song a lot faster and with quite a bit more swing to it. But for reasons unknown to me, this ability seems to vanish the moment I click record. So I decided to go for a slow and steady recording instead. Voilà!

Tempo seems fine to me. Heavy swing always makes me have to work faster for the short notes, somehow. I think the trick is not to overdo it. Well done. I might have a go myself. I'm encouraged by you posting on sound cloud,. I can't make videos, at the moment. I still don't like the tune much, though.

Good effort Fred and....Greg - filming is no more difficult than recording. Stick a camera (pref a 21st century model!) in front of you, press record and upload the result to YouTube. If I can do it I'm sure anyone can! I can't quite explain why I prefer YT so much to SC but I do. Good to see at least one more contribution to the TOTM this month. Can't say I'm too enamoured with the tune either - not sure why it garnered so many votes!

Well, I've voted for it since I found it to have something special that I've personally not heard in other tunes and it was catchy. (:)

As for the filming vs. recording discussion... That's a hard decision indeed and I do see the merits of having a video in front of you so you can see whatever other people are doing to create a certain sound. However, I simply do not own any video camera at all, which is a rather prohibitive situation when it comes to creating video content. ;-) Maybe one day I will buy a simple webcam for a few € and then I'll start uploading videos so that you all can marvel at my stumbling and weird fingering.
