They are all at it
« on: August 28, 2009, 01:58:48 PM »

Most of us know that the Chinese make melodeons  and many Indians and Pakistan companys make Bagpipes
these countrys copy making most things

Has anyone seen any melodeons or accordions made by a Pakistan or Indian company

In India, portative organs (also called ship organs if I remember rightly - another member of the free reed family) are an important part of Indian classical music - and are highly prized.  Pakistan has been a leading maker of bagpipes for years and years.  I suspect that accordians etc are unlikely to catch on in a country that sets its calendar by the monsoon.

Then again, you could not imagine a more unlikely instrument for accompanying outdoor dancing in the uk - for broadly similar reasons.

Maybe they're what Jeff means, but I've seen Indian harmonicas too.

Not wishing to raise problems or be a pedant wish I didn't lie so easily but are they harmoniums or reed organs? The difference, I am led to believe, is whether the air pressure is positive or negative.

My Erika is as old as me. Luckily, it is not as decrepit.

India being the former Jewel of the British Empire, you can be sure that they are harmoniums, not those foreign thingumajigs...  ;)
