Theme of the Month for October 2018: Travel and Transport
« on: October 02, 2018, 09:42:33 AM »

Hi all; thank you for the excellent suggestion, let's do anything related to, however loosely, transport and travel. That includes anything with trips, ships, roads, etc, and plenty of more tangential thoughts too I'm sure!

Happy posting!

Cheers,

Clive

Here's a couple I made earlier:
Trip to Stowmarket and Pony Trot Polka, both played on my Wesson Clipper one-row in C.
https://soundcloud.com/steve_freereeder/trip-to-stowmarket-ponytrot

The 'Trip to Stowmarket' was composed by me in the East Anglian style and is dedicated to Katie and John Howson, former directors of of the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust. 'Pony Trot Polka', inspired here by the playing of Katie Howson, was composed by Norfolk dulcimer player Billy Bennington.

I love the Pony trot Polka - it's one of my favourite tunes. I think you can hear the jingle of bells on the pony's harness.  (:)

It is a great tune...one of my favourites for playing for step dancing on the rare occasions I get the chance...

Obviously I love the Ponytrot Polka too!

Not composed by Billy Bennington though, he said he'd learned it from Billy Cooper senior, and the B music is clearly a version of Golden Slippers. Ah now there's a theme for future months ... footwear!

Thanks for the correction, Katie! Of course, you are right and I should read the notes on the tunes in my copy of 'Before the Night Was Out' more thoroughly!  :|bl

Do you know, I couldn't find a tune I wanted to record that I haven't already done in Lord knows how many videos I've done by now! So I wrote one, and here it is, an ode to the city (town) of roundabouts and cycling redways, Trip to Milton Keynes:

Played on the G/C Lilliput, and played in C.

Cheers,

Clive

I couldn't find a tune I wanted to record ... So I wrote one...

Wow. Now that's raising the bar!
Not just impressed with the process: I thoroughly enjoy the result too.

Thank you :-) Milton Keynes doesn't have enough tunes written about it; trying to redress the balance a bit!

A Journey Just Begun : Phil Cunningham Three times without repeats.

The title aptly describes my ongoing adventure with melodeons!

Another from Mick Reeve's dropbox of notation, (I understand the original is in C).

All the best

This is such a nice tune. And very well played too. Thanks for sharing, Bill.

Probably cheating a bit here, but the title implies travel or transport, don't you think? You can cover your ears if you find my playing too awful.

Thank you Edward. That's a great tune. I know it from somewhere, but I've no idea where.

Why not? I've seen his wheelbarrow, so I'm sure that counts as transport. (:)
