I feel I should recognise this...
« on: October 20, 2018, 10:08:06 AM »

I have just transcribed this tune from a field recording of the playing of Harry Cockerill. It sound familiar, but I can't place it. Can anyone help with its name? I have a feeling that it might be Scottish in origin. Harry played it in E major, so I have included a version in that key and a transcription into G major to make it easier to play on melodeons.

I hope somebody recognises it because not remembering its name is bugging me.

It's Irish.

Yes, a song written by Thomas Moore c. 1813 to an older tune, I believe.

Thanks Rob and Greg. Those two articles provide useful background about the origin of the tune.
