Poll: Tune of the Month for November 2018
« on: October 25, 2018, 08:51:29 PM »

Hi all - this month's suggestions

Jiggery Pokerwork -  runners up two months in a row is this famous tune from John Spiers - https://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.com/2013/02/tune-182-jiggery-pokerwork.html . Written around the accidentals on a pokerwork, and quite a workout. To play it on a one row or non-accidental box will take a bit of fudging which could be quite an interesting exercise in itself.

Jacqueline's Waltz - written by Tom Anderson, a classic Shetland waltz; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp3HTx29yXY played by Hector; music can be found here http://www.folktunefinder.com/tunes/167194

Paddy Carey's - a 48 bar jig with plenty of drive; is it English, or Irish? Well, no-one really knows but it's certainly popular in England. Fits beautifully on one row. And here's Chris Wood and Andy Cutting playing it - it's the first tune here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct-oGOAQAzk

Adieu les Filles de Mon Pays - if ever there was an appropriate month to do this, this would be it - the tune to a french anti-war song, here played by Bob https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njsFCq_HKzo ; quite a popular tune in French sessions played as a slow march. Here's as close to a source recording as we're going to get - played by bagpipe duo Eric Montbel and Jean Blanchard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlDYGXPIF9M

Vote away!

I wish, when you put the choices up for the Tune of the Month vote, you also put up links to the sheet music or abc. It would be nice to be able to have a bit of a run through each tune, before deciding on which one to vote for.
I know, this would mean more work for you Clive, which I am sure you don’t need but it may even help to increase the number of people taking part.

So whilst I didn't vote for it, I'm very pleased that Adieu Les Filles seems to have won this month. 'Adieu' could well have been played and sung during that horrendous war 100 years ago.
I'll certainly be playing the tune in our sessions this month.
