Hi all, the return of this theme where we all get to play each other's tunes :-)

Maybe there's something someone's posted that you really rather liked, or you could take one of our illustrious professional/semi-pro members and play one of theirs - Andy Cutting's Flatworld, Martin Ellison's Herbert the Sherbet for example? Or if you absolutely want to take the theme to its logical end, something you've written - you are a member too, after all!

Looking forward to seeing what we get!

Cheers,

Clive

We/I  had a good time with this idea last time round. I've found it here

http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,9809.msg122702.html#msg122702t

Ollie King's tunes were particularly rewarding in my opinion.

So for this time, where to look?

P&T:   http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,18955.0.html    (Lots to choose from)

Previous write a tune theme

http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,4154.0.html

Sticky Theme:
http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,10049.0.html

....and my list, as on "compositions" below

So all that should take quite some time to work through.

Just spent ages listening to melnetters' compositions. (only where recorded).... though many remain unheard.

So here's my personal shortlist of tunes I might like to learn, just in case you also like them.

Just a quick question... I did a recording of an original tune not long ago in which I played all the string parts myself. I tried for days to come up with something on the box to add in, but I'm still fairly new to it and couldn't manage anything. Could I post that recording here in case one of you vastly more skilled individuals might want to mess around with it, or would that fall too far outside of the scope of the theme?

If you can put a score together then I'll happily have a look. It might. of course, be beyond my skills or my box set up.

Anahata's Orangeville reel is brilliant IMHO... but I've already done it, so I've got to find something else!

Excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys can do with it. It's a fairly simple little tune that I came up with when I was a teen just starting to get into music, but it's always stuck around in my head. Unfortunately, I play entirely by ear, so I can't help much as far as notation goes. I can tell you that I wrote it on guitar tuned to open C, if that helps.

Here we go; didn't take long to learn this one at all since I've half-learned/played it for years; nice to learn it up properly. This is written by good buddy and leader of GIG CB!, Chris Shaw (who says he, stretching the theme somewhat as I like to do, has registered and posted here *very* occasionally mostly advertising the George Inn sessions at London Bridge on the first Monday of the month, On Bouge the french dance club in London, and the occasional GIG CB gig) . Here I've fitted it the G/C Hohner Lilliput and it goes nicely I think.

I of course wrote this for a mate's birthday last week. Just a rough run through (though I should take more time to set up the camera angle etc.). I'll be working at someone else's tunes if I get any chance at all.

Having missed the past two months themes due to being decidedly digitally disadvantaged, I've decided to combine all three.

A tune by a forum member (me) written for a mode of transport (a horse)with a name (Rory)

Rather closer up than I intended...comes of sticking the camera on the table and playing away... :|glug

Awww, that's a cute song. I like the change of style between the two parts. One feels like a jittery jig in resemblance of horse-riding and the other part has a straight-up hornpipe feel to it. Well done! Keep 'em coming.  :||: :|glug

I have on more than one occasion  thought up half tunes on the hoof  when playing for ceilidhs  when I played the first half right but couldn't remember the second half .  It is probably for the best that I  swiftly forgot  my on the hoof 'composition' which might even have been the second ;half of a different tune

Here we are one by me, followed with one by Mr Cutting. Excuse the video quality and duff notes, don't know who's idea it was to play in a silly key!

Nice...both the tune, the touch and the box itself.

Nice - it took me a while to figure out the key you're playing in. Bb on a C/F, right?

Bb on the first tune, then Eb for Milford - my layout is based on Julian Sutton's, with some adjustments that really facilitate that key.

Here's one I wrote after thinking about Gena and her exploration of possible layouts. I decided to write a tune that used both bottom and top octaves for practising the different buttons - ended up being nothing to do with layouts, as I think this is perfectly playable on a standard box. You might want a 3 voice though to stop the squeaky stuff.
A lot of my tunes get their initial rhythmic motif from the titles, by the way.
Play-through to follow sometime (which is of course the point of this thread).
Up The Octave, written for DG box this time, in 5/4 and E minor.

Looks very interesting. Since this is the "Theme of the Month" post, I dare to ask: Are there any recordings of the tune? :^)
