Black box.
« on: November 15, 2018, 06:10:52 PM »

I've just acquired a black Erica shaped DG box. It has no markings at all and I can't find a matching grille pattern on any images.
I presume it's a Chinese Hohner knock-off, but I'd be interested if anyone recognises anything.
I'm trying to post an image but if it all goes wrong, someone might have to hold my hand through the process.

I thought to start with that it was going to be something like that but the grille is different and the fingerboard is one piece plastic.
It's very agricultural inside.

It's tuned very wet and a bit approximate. The basses are slow to speak but it's loud. At the moment I'd say it's ideal for playing for Morris in the rain.
Actually it seems like it has potential.
Pics of reeds just for a laugh.

I think it's a ''Galotta'' ..I have seen a few of this model in red with Galotta name badge on them..reeds could be low grade Weltmeister.

They are low grade something, that's for sure.
Still, I think it has promise and as it owes me nothing I'll play around with it a bit.
Drier tuning, and maybe a testing bed for odd accidentals. Possibly too much trouble to make it a 4th button start but you never know.
Mechanisms and bellows all work fine so that's a good start.

I own two realy old Galottas, both Preciosa's size. One (C/F) is older, with multi-reed plates like bandoneon, another (A/D) - newer, with usual reeds. Both very nice instruments, and the A/D I like more than Liliput and Preciosa.
