It looks like a paint brush with the bristles removed and the metal sleeve cut at an angle. Very neat.
It's similar in principle to the "German spoon" in the Bergflodt video. It's different in that the Bergflodt spoons have the handle at an angle to the "business end", and they are wedge-shaped, with a flat bottom and sides, narrowing to an open delivery end. I took some advice from Olaf when I made mine, and ran up 4 or 5 in different sizes out of brass sheet with the sockets soldered on. The different sizes mean that I can apply large or small quantities, depending on the job in hand, in one run.

I think the angled handle works well for dipping the spoon level into the wax pot, although a straight handle might be easier to manipulate when actually applying the wax. Perhaps I'll do some bending to see.

Never seen waxing done, so much appreciate the videos, fascinating stuff.
I always think watching someone proficient at a task is always nice to see, and appreciate the ease shown coming from experienced hands.

I clicked onto this thread because I kept thinking the thread title could be one of JK's tunes, with his sense of humour!
Thanks though, have learnt something.
cheers

Instead of a spoon, use a knife!

My daughter showing off her skills.

One advantage over a spoon is with a hot knife and wax stick you don't need to keep going back and forth to the wax pot. It saves time.

Now I want to see someone using a fork...

That’s much the same as I do Scott. Also saves time because you don’t have to wait for the wax pot to warm up.

Waxing is like skinning a cat. It is a metaphor. In fact..maybe we should have a waxing competition to see which is the fastest method  :D

Do you have a Hohner from 1934-1945 with a serial number on?
Send me a private message or comment on the German Accordion Problem spreadsheet to improve the statistics of the project and get an estimate of the production date of the box if it is not known.

The link worked fine for me, but the film was just too fast for me to gain any benefit from it, I'm afraid.

I think we'd need, say, old PA reed blocks, with 20plus reeds on each side :o and then no owners will be harmed.

Compression rate 15:1. Approximately 10 minutes to tack- wax, check all reeds on air table for proper sounding both push/pull (standing in background) then full waxing both sides of one reedblock. Emily's fast and good.

"Compression rate 15:1. Approximately 10 minutes"

Thanks. Interesting to know, but I can see what she's doing; it's just too fast to see how she's doing it! Is there some way that I can slow it down at my end, does anyone know?

Given that most of us here are only waxing a few reeds or, at most, a couple of blocks at any one time is speed really a concern?

I have waved my magic wand over this video and slowed it down to something like a normal speed. I could put this up on YouTube as an unlisted video that needs a link from here to view it (or just make it public of course) but would like your daughter's permission to do so first.
