Poll: Tune of the Month for December 2018
Clive Williams:
Hi all - here we go again!
Paddy Carey's - last month's runner up, a 48 bar jig with plenty of drive; is it English, or Irish? Well, no-one really knows but it's certainly popular in England. Fits beautifully on one row. And here's Chris Wood and Andy Cutting playing it - it's the first tune here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct-oGOAQAzk
Plant un Cao - I must confess, I thought this was Plante un Chou, but a quick google shows me to be wrong! Traditiional Auvergne schottische... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AQB5Md_lxI
Hogmanay Jig - very seasonal of course, is this great jig from Andrew Rankine, a Scottish accordionist and band leader. Here's Anahata's version https://youtu.be/kAI9dHMxtvw?t=65
Italian Rant - thanks for the suggestion Pete, good one! This is a playford tune - here's a version I rather liked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlA0RGHehpY ; you can find ABC here on Pete's original post

Hobed o Hilion - bonus one this month (because I missed that Pete had done a recording for us - oops!), from the playing of Huw and Tony Williams - https://app.box.com/s/ocv0s10jowhzvcq1nx58hdjisn8nqcmo in A minor and https://app.box.com/s/frslut1mgmhuk20aba1b99ls7nwdx5t2 in E minor . ABC and more details on the thread here: http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,3033.msg274822.html#msg274822

Joan Kureczka:
Wow. I've been obsessed with Italian Rant for the past three weeks. May have to actually get a video done. Turns out it's even older than Playford, so was clearly a long popular tune when he started putting the collections together -- La Mantovana.
Hugh Taylor:
Plant un Cao - I must confess, I thought this was Plante un Chou, but a quick google shows me to be wrong!
Clive: Are you saying they are two separate tunes, or that Plante un Chou should really be called Plant un Cao?

There are two related, but different settings on line. Plante un Chou and Plant un Cao?
Plantes Un Chou is French for Plant A Cabbage. Plant Un Cao seems to be the name it is known by in Ireland but it doesn't seem to be good Irish. Mind you, that's only according to Google. Real people may know different. I suspect the difference is down to Chinese whispers.
Julian S:
Chou I know, but what is Cao ? Dialect presumably. (Always liked the tune anyway !)
Italian Rant is very much on my 'tunes to get to performance' list, and if it won I'd have even more incentive...so hard choice for me.
