The snow has arrived in my home town and the cross country ski tracks are open today (13-Dec-18).

To celebrate, here is a tune called "Snow on the Track" written by Rachel Darling: https://youtu.be/53mFnLUrG7Y

Played here on a Castagnari Handry 2000-18, although it works just as well on a 2-row/8-bass.

Just catching up:
Thanks for the Stickle article. I remembered there was a German connection to the family, now that explains it.
Somewhere ( JK ? Brass Money sleeve notes ? ) I've read it accounts for the unusual nature of some of the tunes, the Waterman's Hornpipe illustrating the unusual nature of the  tunes in the repertoire.
Have I missed a link to their tunes from the article?

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

It's not an,  article, as such, I'm afraid. It's a teaser page from an article collected  in an EFDSS book.
The complete thing is available on the linked site for free, as an internet read, if you want to read more.

Lovely tune and lovely playing Peter!

Do you have a Hohner from 1934-1945 with a serial number on?

Sorry I cannot provide anything more than dots, but here's a tune for the season I worked up years ago with a friend playing Northumbrian small pipes.  You can use any key you wish...as long as you have a IImajor chord available.

Cheers.

Since I've never really played any christmas tunes (besides the occasional doodling around), here comes a true winter/christmas tune from Germany:

"Leise rieselt der Schnee"

Hope you enjoy it, best wishes and may you have a tranquil holiday season!

That was very nice Fred.  Which of your "various Hohners" was it played on?

Well, almost all my Hohners are taken apart currently because I've got too much free time and try to alter them with so-called improvements and repairs. :D
In fact it was played on my Loffet Graet e Breizh but you are right and I should have recorded it on a German instrument since it is a German song after all. ;)

OK, I've decided that this is definitely worth a re-record:

Here is the same song, but played on my Hohner Pokerwork G/C - my very first box! (:)
Enjoy!

Christmas down under

After a wild tropical storm and a few chardonnays I recorded something Christmassy for yers: Under the Boardwalk

Oh, when the sun beats down on the rusty old tin roof
And your soles get so hot you wish your burning feet were fire proof

Hope you all have a good one  (:)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Here's a tune I found only this morning and HAD to do a harmony part for it...
Christmas, or The Christmas March

Christmas Day,  and waiting for the dinner to cook!  Ages since I’ve posted here, so here are a couple of tunes, the first has nothing to do with Christmas, or even winter, but it has that ‘feel’ about it. It is a C16th Flemish tune by Thielmann Susato, called ‘Pour Quoy’ , presumably old Flemish for Pourquoi.  The second is the well-known ‘Gaudete’, which has everything to do with Christmas.   The box is an 8 bass Castagnari ‘1914’ . in D/G.

Here's a jolly little tune for Boxing Day. Recorded a few minutes ago and stuck straight out here. The Christmas Box, from the William Andrews Tunebook: the Quantocks Fiddler.

Off to our Boxing Day knees up, now. Hope you're having fun  ;D :||:  :M

That's enough festiveness; on to the next theme! Late contribs as ever can go on the end as usual!
