Regret- Sold my G/C Tommy -any ideas
« on: November 15, 2019, 12:35:27 PM »

I regret what I did. I went all in on banjo, but what I really needed was a small break from accordion, not to ditch playing altogether.

Anyone have a smaller box to recommend? My budget is not great, but I'm saving.

This was really dumb, I miss the Tommy as if I tossed out an old friend.

Thanks Lester.
The URL is blocked at work, so I'll view it when I get home, or on my phone later.

This will sell soon I think.

The Tommy was beautiful, it was impulsive to sell it.  What I liked the most about accordion is I could put it down for a week or more, and be up to speed in little time.

I need to practice banjo constantly to be up to speed, I'm weary of it.

The Button Box has a used G/C Castagnari Lilly in stock. They are great little boxes and lots of fun.
I have a B/C and really enjoy it.

I'm thinking of going 3 row, which would free up my Serafini R2D2. Its MM 8 bass no 3rds. Plenty of videos of it being played - the only ones I have are an old DG Sander or the Serafini - so if you see one of my videos with a melodeon with black buttons, that's the one. Very light swing tuning. 2 helper buttons, light weight.
Let me know if you are interested, as I haven't thought about prices or when to make the change yet.
EDIT
Just noticed that we live in different continents. Probably not a starter.

You have my deepest sympathy, Steve. That's how I started on the melodeon! I sold my English concertina, after about 40 years, 'cause it wasn't getting much use and I needed some dosh. Only to find myself really needing something to squeeze a year or two later. Obviously, I couldn't afford another metal-ended Lachenal and had to plump for a £7.01 "International" melodeon instead. (Mind you, looking back, I'd probably have been financially better off if I'd just gone for another Lachenal in the first place!!!)

Thanks for replies.
I think my best bet is to see how much $ I can get for the banjo before I buy another accordion.

Impulsive decisions are not always the best, but if a good deal comes up, time is not always our friend.

I can't help wondering if selling the banjo is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It is permissible to enjoy more than one type of instrument. You might regret selling the banjo as much as you regret selling the melodeon.

No, I got more relaxation from the melodeon, and progressed faster.
For example, I could learn a couple of new tunes in an evening.

On the banjo, I'm constantly practicing the rolls just to play anything.

As I said, I needed a break, not to sell it.
