Are Melodeons becoming cool?
« on: December 24, 2018, 06:17:58 PM »

Now even featuring in perfume adverts..

I assumed from the bellows that it was a Castagnari, when I first saw the "shorter" advert on TV, but not so sure having seen the full film on Youtube.

Gee, I hope not.

I always love it when the instruments in the shot bear little to no sonic relationship to the sound track.  In this case visuals are backed by a piano and a horn section.   Maybe a MIDI- melodeon???

Yes - it's a Castagnari, an older version of the Handry I think. The Castagnari Cortina was a two row model with the fancy carving on the ends, but I don't know if the three row version with fancy ends went by a different name.
Rees might know...

It's definitely a Handry, nineties model. The carved Cortina style body was not a catalogue model but could be ordered by special request.

There is precedence here. Witness the attached 1930's photo of Coco Chanel making a telephone call from her apartment at the Ritz, whilst simultaneously knocking out a quick tune on her new button accordeon.

Surely that would be “Sister Ed”?

As it is the pantomime season, is it pertinent to ask if this is a  trap for Little Red Riding Hood?

The diatonic button accordion has always been the cooler/better looking instrument of the free reed family. 8)

Also, you can actually move around while playing the thing.

No offense to the PA/CBA/Concertina/Bandoneon/harmonium etc. players
