Farewell to Nigg - first recording on my D/G Hohner Lilliput
« on: December 28, 2018, 11:35:11 AM »

Season's greetings to all

My sweet wee Hohner Lilliput is all tuned up and cleaned, so here is my first effort at posting a video of it.

A lovely pipe tune called "Farewell to Nigg", composed by Duncan Johnstone.  He wrote the tune after seeing an oil drilling platform leaving the Cromarty Firth to head out into the Moray Firth and beyond.

We used to sail this part of Scotland - Cromarty Firth has an easy, safe anchorage just off the beach and we spent many a week-end there on our boat with the children (and sometimes the dog).  There could be as many as five platforms lined up, waiting to be towed to their working destinations.  I learned this tune for the nostalgia.........

Oh I do like that very much, and as Nigg is only 20 miles or so from me, I must learn it.

It is a fine tune, I found the sheet music on the session site,  Maggie  :|||:
