interesting little box, anyone know anything about it?

No ;)

Nice looking box though, a lot better quality than the usual one rows sold on ebay.  I don't know why but it says Italian to me.

Does anyone know the purpose/thinking-behind the levers coming down to each pallet?

To  close them (or assist)? Keys do not look long enough to accommodate much of a a V spring.

The pallets are pivoted on these secondary levers, which are lifted by the button levers.  Its usually done this way so that the pallets can be much closer to the buttons.   Its a common arrangement for the inside row of buttons on a three-row box.  I've not seen them on a one-row before.

Thank you, that makes sense. The button end of the pallets is nearly in line with the keys, so there'd be very little lift at that end if it wasn't done like that. On the other hand given that the vast majority of one-rows do without such a system, what was the intended benefit to justify the complication?

Probably to keep the size down.
