Notation for French tune
« on: January 06, 2019, 05:20:34 PM »

I heard a great tune yesterday at pre Bal session, my first experience of such:)
I look for the dots for a tune called Pom’ tachee written by Christian Pacher of the Band Ciac Boum.
I’ve looked at a couple of the suggested sources but  haven’t had any success.
Can anyone help please?

Hi Caroline, Me again, the person playing the tune on Saturday!
If you don't get anywhere with this inquiry for a proper score,   I'll find the tune in my notebook and send you a photo of it.
Thanks for your interest.

Hi Jack,  if you are able to do that it would be very much appreciated.  I can pick up a tune to some degree by ear but am aware that I drift off into my own world too :)
I’m hoping to make it to the Bath session next time,so hope to see you there.  Bristol is tricky for me in the evenings.
Thanks for your support.

Here it is, with my chords. If your 2-row is like mine, you have to play in the top octave in order to acccess that low E flat.
Good luck with hitting it!

Is that notation for left-handed players?

Or for anyone with vertical dyslexia.

For many years I played the Friday lunch hour at a friends restaurant.  He set out a nice wooden keg with a sign saying "TIPS".  We changed it to "Musician" after several unfortunate dyslexic incidents...

I wasn't expecting it to be upside down, but I was hoping for French letters.

Wishing to preserve a wonderful tune....

The B music of the posted ABC version differs crucially from the tune as played on the Ciac Boum CD, and as notated in my handwritten version. I think there's a bar missing around Bar 9-10.  And different chords are needed in what is now bar 11.  Having a properly printed version (the right way up too)  is very welcome, so thanks Pete.  Could you do the correction in case anyone wants to learn it?

I've added the missing bar Jack (sorry!), if you let me know which chords need changing I can do that no problem.

Are there any sound files anywhere? I'm finding this topic rather mysterious.

I have a very short video I can share if I could workout how......
Here’s a link to the post on my fb page https://www.facebook.com/100000519262766/posts/2453511651342786/

Thanks Pete for the abc, I’ll add the printed version if Pete can confirm the chords have been amended.

Thanks to all,
Caroline

I have just edited my previous ABC version of the tune to correct yet another error (I don't usually make so many, honest!). I'm posting the new version again here for those that have already downloaded it and might miss the corrections otherwise.

Odd time signatures like 5/4 are not pre-defined in ABC so the midi player won't understand the rhythm and will not play accompaniment chords etc. ABC has a command that allows you to define the pattern to be played as an accompaniment using the code line %%MIDI gchord xxxxx - this is for a 5/4 tune of course. In this statement the x's are replaced by other letters which describe what will be played for each beat; f = fundamental (bass note); c = chord and z = rest (nothing). I've used %%MIDI gchord fcfcc in this instance but you might like to try other combinations just for fun.
Pete.

Edited to add:
%% commands can only be used in the header and will be ignored in body text as far as I understand it. I know of no way to to change these commands mid tune.

I'm not sure if you're referring to %%MIDI with that statement, but, try:
Code: [Select]
%%MIDI gchord fcfc
"G" g8 |\
%%MIDI gchord bzzz
"G".g8 |

This gets messy real fast but it does work.
