Luigi Locarno
« on: January 14, 2019, 02:46:23 PM »

I wondered if anyone has heard of this maker? (If he is one)
I was just given a Piccolo PA , it’s appears to have age, judging the construction.
No marks on reeds, aluminum plate with steel reeds (blue coloring).
It’s in good shape ( after putting a few reeds back in place) it plays pretty good.
Made in Italy
Any info appreciated.

Is it marked "made in Italy"?  Just going from looks it appears to be a 1930s instrument of the type that was made in Italy, but was copied in large numbers by makers in Saxony.  If Italian there were numerous small makers in Italy most of whom have left little in the way of records, so there is only a small chances of finding information on the maker.  You might find something at accordionlinks.com where there is a list of makers.

Yes marked made in Italy.
I looked at that site and one that was Italian makers with no luck.

Your guess on the age sounds about right, it’s definitely well made, keyboard works well, bellows are almost perfect.
I just tack in the bass side reeds, they fell out with others on the treble side.
I think it could sound good when done. Tuned 440.
I would really have to redo wax etc. if I was to slip into the dark side:)

What’s the glue to use for celluloid repairs?
Lifting in a couple places plus the trim on the front needs attention.

The original glue could have been scrap celluloid dissolved in acetone.  For small repairs a thin grade of cyanoacrylate works well, but getting the loose pieces well clamped and not getting glue on the outside requires some care.

Thanks, Theo
Trim piece will be the one that will be tricky to hold in place, other spots will be easier. (fingers crossed)

Sorry for putting this in the wrong place, I was interested more about the “makes” than the instrument.

For an evil twin this is the only PA I’ve ever picked up that wasn’t so heavy, it’s the same or similar to melodeons I have. I’ve been able to do a couple of tunes on it, melodeon style of course!!

Basses and chords are different as they are not next to each other side by side on the row but inside and outside rows, actually hard to deal with!

Chords
A D G C F A# outside row
Bass
A d g c f a# inside row

Luigi.............................???

Not much info I guess . Or no one looks at the “other free reed” category  :D , thread purgatory .

Well I got the trim and loose celluloid glued back in place , also where it wanted to be  ;)
And got my fingers freed ( from becoming part of the project) just in time too!

Not getting on top of playing the basses in only 4 years or so, I really think I'd manage better if they were all like that!

Winston, The more I play it I think your right, but I only have one strap on the box where I really need two. LH needs to be angled slightly to align with buttons. On this box the air button is useless or in a bad spot.
