Theme of the Month for February 2019: Song Tunes
« on: February 01, 2019, 02:27:03 PM »

Hi all, this month tunes which are the melodies of a song. Either simple melodeon playing the tune and no voice, or singing too if you prefer (and can do it - I croak like a bullfrog!). Up to you!

Cheers,

Clive

This one is eight years old so 2011 quality control. I will post a new one in a bit but fits the bill meanwhile...

Would someone like to explain to an absolute beginner how Theme of the Month relates to Tune of the Month?

They are entirely separate.
In the Tune of the Month everyone put their versions of the given tune.
In the Theme of the Month everyone put their versions of any tune that fits the given theme.

Do you have a Hohner from 1934-1945 with a serial number on?
Send me a private message or comment on the German Accordion Problem spreadsheet to improve the statistics of the project and get an estimate of the production date of the box if it is not known.

Here's one I posted a few years ago to be going on with - Tyne of Harrow.  I'll try and do another if I can find the time this month. I put a few details on Recordings and Videos at the time.

One of my favourites from the @Mcgrooger Youtube repertoire. Anyone who can play that well, and sing in accompaniment likewise, is up there in my estimation with people who can simultaneously pat their heads and rub their stomachs. I can play, and I can (sort of) croak out a song, but never the twain meet.

'Row On' remembered from Butley Oyster sessions in the 1970's, the tune composed by Tim Laycock for existing lyrics.

Three times through, (carried away again). Original key F but I thought would sound good on the BbEb 'chocolate' box.

Not heard Row On before and a beautifully played haunting melody. As a beginner also noticed the playing position of the instrument that is being held firmly in place. Must try to adopt this, every little helps!

This is so far out of my comfort zone, but fun to try something completely different!

My effort is played on a one voice Maugein.

Bwahaha, that came unexpected! Great job, Tufty, definitely not your everyday melodeon song. :D

I must make it clear that it is not me in the shades singing. A completely understandable mistake though!  8)

And now for something completely different, "Mon Amant de Saint Jean". Played on a 3 voice GC sold under the Parigi brand name but I believe it was made by Bompezzo.

Here is the real thing, sung by Lucienne Delyle.

I wonder whether any melnetters are able to play Delilah. It seems like an ideal tune for this thread!
