Hello,

Here is an antique that I could use some help in devising some kind of description for the purpose of posting to ebay. I'd like to be able to say something about it besides here is antique melodeon. Something about it's possible country of origin, style, strange keyboard and paddle (?) configuration. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Quote from Theo in another thread,
“Reeds marked with the circle are the most common type I see in Klingenthal built boxes that have separate reed plates.  ”

Yours have circles stamped on the reeds and squares,I think.

Here the thread.

Thank you boxcall. That is the only thing I recognized about this box is the DIX reed as they are in another accordion I have that is quite different....

Hi Suzanne,

This is a model of accordion made in Germany (with some minor variants e.g. in the type of bass keys) by Koch and later by Hohner. Hohner called it their Model 416, Polish / Russian model. Usually in C/F with long rows of melody keys and with 2 accidentals at the beginning of the rows.  You can see one version illustrated on p. 28 (original page numbers, not page of the scan) of this catalogue posted to melnet:

Yours seems to be an earlier type with (mostly) spoon basses, probably made by Koch in the early 1920s.

Thanks Paul,

Appreciate your help as always. So, is there some value in the reeds (I don't gather so from the interwebs)? I'm imagining that Peter bought it as an example of an interesting type to him that he could get a look at, in person, for cheap...

I think the value is the reeds as part of the whole instrument.  The removable cover over the treble pallets often gets lost so that being complete is worth a mention in your write up.

Thanks Theo,

That's helpful. I know, after discussions here, to not remove parts from what look to me to be "junkers" but still am subject to some hand wringing over if there is a point in trying to sell it. S
