Where’s Louis ???
« on: February 25, 2019, 08:20:24 PM »

As I am now the happy owner of one of Malcolm mannings Louis melodeon’s (no5) I was wondering where all the others went and if their owners are members here on the forum ? Malcolm said he made 23 in total but that no1 no longer exists ( don’t know what happened to it ). So where are the other 21 boxes  I wonder ???????

I had number 6 (I think) in D as well.  Bought directly from his shop in Bradford? as I remember.  Very fine warren of mainly fiddles and the odd few free reeds.  Wire at the windows and a fairly run-down area, too but great chap. Instrument eventually sold during one of my 'I really don't think I like 1 rows' moments and since regretted, of course.  Replaced once again with a Savoy - also then sold. Seems I never learn! :D

Wow - great to see that place is still going! I remember dropping in a long time ago when he was still making them; they were (still are I expect) lovely one-rows.

One of his other boxes a grey one in D came up on e bay a few years ago and I think he bought it back.
Nice boxes and I don;t play mine as often as i should.
I'll post some photos later.

I had #5. This was the loudest accordion I have ever owned.

Yes. I watch most of the early models go from bench to sale.
