Dora Accordeon brand?
« on: March 01, 2019, 12:33:32 AM »

Hi, folks,
my name is Jan, 58 years old, living in Germany.
Recently I was given two single row boxes.
One is a 4 button LMMH Ludwig in C from the 20es, which will help me improve my restauration skills.
The other one is a white three button LMM single row in G, marked Dora Accordeon. Can anyone give me more information about this brand, as I didn't find anything?
Any help is highly appreciated

Thanks in advance
Jan

Hello and welcome, Jan.

I've seen several Dora Accordions advertised, mainly on eBay, I think. They look like common or garden Klingenthal products, and certainly will help with developing the skills required for the more worthwhile restoration of better quality instruments. The fact that they came free makes these two even more desirable! Good luck with them.

Thank you for your quick answer
To be honest, the Klingenthal origin is, what I supposed. I understand, that these boxes are cheap and not really good ones. But the Dora is interesting for me, because it's in good condition. And its style in white with blue floral ornaments and red bellows is just looking nice  ::) Shabby chic 8)

Wow! It's extraordinarily pretty, and it looks very well preserved, too.
I would certainly have a go at making it nicely playable. Even though it's never going to be a 1040 Hohner or whatever, it will have that low voice (I take it that it is LMM) which gives it a character of its own. You might fall in love with it when it's done, who knows?

Very pretty indeed. I notice also that she has a leather bass strap- all the cheaper boxes I have seen have either oilcloth or woven webbing straps.

It would be interesting to know whether she has harmonica reed plates or individual reed plates.

The look made me already fall in love. The leather straps have apparently been added later but in a nice looking way. The plates are harmonica style.
It is a LMM, not too "wet", sounds well tuned and nice, a little deep with the G tuning. Only two or three Low valves tend to snore a little. I think, a set of new valves, some new Kaliko stripes to the bellows, and it will be a nice low budget box. Not a 1040, but lovely. The shabby chic look will be preserved.
