Help me be creative. What else should I consider?

See what you make of this. I also have it in the original key of one flat. Alistair is happy for it to be record for amateur use.

Do you mind if I ask who notated it?

Probably not what this thread is for, but here's one of my own tunes, recorded again this morning. Video quality is due to me using Videopad software which is free, I need to find something better or pay for the full version.
Last Orders at the Tap and Spile
Gorgeous. Lovely tune beautifully played.

I abc'd it from a photocopy send out by Alistair Anderson for a two day workshop of the Steel Skies suite. I couldn't make head nor tail of it without hearing it with all of the time sig changes, my sight reading isn't anything like good enough!

Just found it in the original key of F, sounds better I think.

Thanks, Pete.
That's why I asked. The metre changes more than the notation can cope with. Perhaps it's one of those tunes that is so in the cracks that it can't be notated. I've met and worked with Alistair a couple of times over the years, and he's clearly a giant, but this tune doesn't settle to a pulse for me. I haven't given up on it, I just need to revisit it a bit and try to find out what he was doing.

The dots for First Light are in the score of Steel Skies by Alistair in, I think 1982. There is a solo and a duet version in the score, where it is marked "Slow, in free rhythm". It's played very freely. The album (12TS427) is very well worth listenng to if you can get it. I think there is a CD re-issue on Amazon for £6.99.
There are some very good tunes there, all clearly recognisable as Alistair's.  I play 'The road to the North' and 'Air for Maurice Ogg a lot (on the English concertina).

As usual, Mr Bailey, very nice. It struck me as a bit of a coincidence that we're in the middle of watching Doris Day in "The Glass Bottomed Boat"!

Nice one, Sir John. And you seem to have got over the difficulties of filming yourself. I'm intrigued though that your YT video doesn't show a channel name. I didn't know you could post without one.

It is extraordinary how music can stir up the memory cells. I heard this tune back in the eighties and never knew what it was, but i never heard it again until now. I recognised it straight away. A beautiful tune.
