Really enjoyed the Hexham gig last year. Hope to see you back up here sometime. I think Settle might be the closest venue this time.

The Knight and Spiers gig in Bamford tomorrow evening (6 March) is almost sold out but there are a few tickets available on wegottickets (search for events in Bamford) and a few at Bamford Post Office (in the community-owned pub “The Anglers Rest”). Details of this and other musical events in Bamford (many including box players) are on www.bcac.org uk.

Hi Melnetters,

Elli and I went to see Squeezy and Peter at Devoran, just outside Truro on Friday.... all we can say is, if you have the chance, you just Have to get to see them.

The evening was simply knockout ... The repertoire is, as you'd expect, based on traditional tunes ...but the playing is exquisitely improvised and developed. Peter is a sensational fiddle player and the arrangements that he and Squeezy have put together are taking traditional music to a new level....each tune, or set of tunes, was packed full of dynamics, harmony and melody all woven and unfolding. They were passing the tune and the lead and the harmonies back and forth between them. It was really quite stunning.

...we left knocked out, as was the rest of the audience by the whole evening.

I'm basically a session player and I don't really 'do' concerts ...but this was special.

Pete. Reeth (near Richmond) is the closest one for us (tomorrow night!)

This Wednesday is our monthly session night in Kendal at the Oddfellows Arms on Burneside Road, so will have to give the concert a miss. Pity.

... and thoroughly recommended.  Two of the best folk musicians around bouncing off each other - fantastic!

Sorry to hear you were ill ... you were missed ... the organisers waited 5 minutes for you if that's any consolation.

No I wasn't ! The missus couldn't make it due to illness but I was there (knew I should have properly introduced myself with the Melnet handshake when we had a chat !)
It was a great gig - thanks...all the best for the rest of the tour both.

At an Opera House performance for a great soprano's last outing, a couple of members of the audience couldn't help noticing the empty seat in front of them at this sell out event. At the interval they asked the elderly lady, who it was who hadn't managed to make it. She explained that this ticket was for her husband, but he had sadly died.
Oh, what a great shame, so sorry. Then after a minute they added gently: couldn't you find a friend to come along?
Ah, said the elderly lady, I tried, but they're all at the funeral.

That raised a smile ! Fortunately, there is another local opportunity to see the wonderful Knight and Spiers, in Shrewsbury this coming Tuesday (19th)...
