Womack Melodeon Questions
« on: March 17, 2019, 02:35:17 PM »

I have seen a local shop offering a Womack melodeon for sale.  A search of this site and the web revealed little information about this brand.  Can anyone provide some information about the brand?  Is it similar in quality to the current Hohner 1 rows or maybe a little better?  Would it be worth considering as a second instrument to use when traveling and camping or as a loaner for someone who wants to give the melodeon a try?

No price yet on this insturment as it is waiting to be restored.

Thanksl

Hi Larry

I sold a a Womack last year so I can give you a little info. I was told by the previous owner that the maker lived in Scarborough.  The one I had was fitted with Binci hand made reeds and was well made.  It was physically larger than a Hohner 114, more like the size of a Cajun or Québécois box.  It was a very nice player, but quieter than the good North American boxes.

John Womack is a long time accordionist with whom I played for garland dancers years ago.
However he was led astray by cajunitis.
He is a throughly decent bloke so his work is probably the same..
