Help/Advice please
« on: March 28, 2019, 12:52:29 PM »

Bernard Loffet Touptit DG Model
I pressed the lowest button in today as I do, and nothing but a wheeze...not a note! Okay with the note coming out but nothing on the push. I will take the grill off to investigate but what could possibly go wrong? Is it debris or any advice please?

The Touptit is single voice so if a reed gets jammed no sound will be heard.
No point taking off the grille as the reeds aren't in there.
You need to remove the bellows pins to get inside.
Fortunately it is the push reed that is not sounding so you will be able to see the reed (the pull reeds are out of sight underneath).
Locate the correct reed give it a ping with something thin like a feeler gauge. This should dislodge whatever is fouling the reed.
If this doesn't work come back for more advice.

And out of interest , if this didn’t work and there was no obvious obstruction fouling the reed , what would be the next course of action ???

Not sure that there is a cause other than debris stuck in the reed that would give this symptom other than the tongue moving in the slot which is more or less impossible in normal use.

I've found sometimes the dust is so small as to be unable to see it.
Flicking the reed has dislodged it, but I really haven't been able to see what was causing the problem.

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

if its a tiny spec of dust pressing the appropriate button and pushing /pulling hard on the bellows is likely to dislodge it. If it doesn't  what Rees and Lester have said is the way to go
