Another 'Name that tune' request
« on: April 07, 2019, 06:44:53 PM »

I don't really like doing this but I'm rather foxed by the tune that Hexham Morris use for the Litchfield dance Millie's Bequest, it's certainly not the one in Bacon's black book. I could ask Frank Lee I suppose but I thought it would be good to give someone else the earworm at the same time as asking if anyone can 'Name That Tune'?

It took me about ten minutes to figure the tune out in G but it would be really nice to have a name for it.

If you look a bit harder at the comments and replies you'll find the answer. ["The tune is 'Duncan McGillivray, Chuef Steward' or at least, half of the 4 parts of it."]  I managed to find the dots after some diligent Googling - can't remember where I found them though.

Thanks for that, I did see the question about the tune title but failed to notice that the reply was hidden. Not very helpful that, especially as there was only one comment!
I'll have a look around to see if I can find the dots as it would be interesting to see the missing two parts and hear the full piece.

That's excellent, thank you. I wasn't having much luck finding the notation to be honest.

This time I have an earworm. I know this is a very well known tune, and song if I'm not mistaken, but the title (and the B or chorus music if there is one) escapes me. I'm aware that the notation isn't quite right technically, only 15 bars and probably the wrong key, but I think it's near enough to be recognised. I just know I'm going to kick myself if this is answered!

Excellent, thanks Lester! Perhaps not quite as well known as I thought, but I have a really nice version of The Santa Fe Trail on an obscure old folk CD. I still have a sneaking suspicion that there is yet another, similar tune lurking in there somewhere . . .

Here's a sample of the version of the recording I have, I'm fairly certain this isn't the tune I'm thinking of though.

There's a version of this by The Master - aka Peter Bellamy here.

I think the name of your tune is possibly 'Botany Bay', though?
