Death of a member Jeff Smith
« on: April 23, 2019, 01:11:51 PM »

I'm sorry to have to bring news of the death of member Jeff Smith who posted here as tjsmithdog5.   His son contacted me recently to say that he had passed away after a heart attach on Saturday.

I met Jeff last year at Melodeons in Wensleydale and then a short while later in Hexham.   He was a charming man and was very appreciative of my small efforts to fit in some work for him during the course of his visit to the UK.

Oh - so sorry to hear of Jeff's untimely death.
I too met him at Wensleydale last April. He was in my workshops and made some very complimentary comments afterwards.
A charming man indeed. he will be much missed, I'm sure.

Sad news, I also only met Jeff last year in Wensleydale, he had a lovely smile.

Very sorry to hear that. I was delighted to meet him at a festival in Canada two years ago.

How sad to hear; I enjoyed watching his TotM videos, they were often some of my favorite takes on the tunes.

I never met Jeff in person, but he was particularly generous with his time and knowledge when I was first starting out with the melodeon and considering an instrument purchase.  I thank him and this forum for that bit of connection!

Jeff was the first person to book for Melodeons in Wensleydale last year. Imagine my surprise when the first booking came from somebody living in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I only met him and his wife during the Melodeons in Wensleydale weekend, but they seemed a really nice couple. I'm so sorry to hear of his demise and my sympathies go to his widow.

I met Jeff and his wife on the community bus into Hawes last year and undertook a workshop with him. A really nice man. I’m saddened and shocked to hear this sad news. Thinking of his widow at this time. RIP Jeff.

Yes I too met him in Wensleydale last year, and he commented on my playing which was nice. I thought it strange that he knew my Playford tunes even though from the US when people from the UK didn't. A nice man.
