Searching for the name of this French tune
« on: April 24, 2019, 11:35:15 PM »

Does anybody know the name of this tune?

Code: [Select]
X:1
T:Unknown
O:France
M:3/4
P:ABAB
K:G
P:A
DE |: G2 D2 B2 | G4 DE | G2 D2 B2 | A4 AB | c2 B2 A2 | G2 F2 E2 | D2 E2 F2 |1 E4 DE :|2 G4 DE |
P:B
|: A2 AcBA | B2 BdcB | A2 AcBA | B2 G2 FG |
A2 AcBA | B2 BdcB | A2 AcBA |1 G4 FG :|2 G4 |

My notation was quickly written down and might be a bit off but should be close enough to recognise the melody.

I'm fairly certain it's an old French melody (around 18th century, I guess).
Best I could find on folktunefinder was a mazurka called "Catherine" but it's not quite the one I'm searching for.

I appreciate any guesses. Thanks.

This is Valse a Cadet. You are missing a third part, but if you search that name on YouTube you will find it easily.

Enjoy!

Ah Gary you're a treasure when it comes to French music. Much appreciated. Maybe the tune will now stop to haunt me as it has done for the past days. (:)

It's a tune worth being haunted by and it falls nicely on the melodeon!

Thanks for the kind words,

G
